Ascertaining which are high and low spots of a damaged area on a panel is the starting point for any body repair. A body file enables you to see where these are to enable you to carry out the repair.

So, plan of attack. You need to know where the high and low spots are. So like I said, we use the body file to help us with that. And we can just file across- the top of the panel. Don't ever go forwards and backwards with the body file.

You always go an angle. Otherwise you can get big gouges coming from it. So I'm not putting any pressure on this. I'm just gonna go backwards and forwards. So it marks at the top of the surface.

So should be able to see now around the edge we've got a ring where the panel's been polished by the body file, and then in the center, that's your damage there. All that is low. As this is pushed in by the damage, by the impact, the outside will come up slightly. So this might be slightly high. So we have to knock that down and bring that up.

And that's basically the theory of how we get this dent out.
